In Louisiana, the amount of child support you pay is not tax deductible. If you receive child support, the child support is tax free regardless of when it is paid or when it is received.

Alimony paid pursuant to a court order is usually deductible. This will include court-ordered spousal support and may also include other forms of support provided to your former spouse. Your tax deduction is a factor to consider when determining a fair amount of alimony to be paid in your case.
